Some places reveal their meaning only after we have walked them.
There was a time when not every road came with instructions. No maps in our pockets. No estimated arrival times. No blue dot showing exactly where we were. Only a direction and the willingness to follow it.
Today, we have become remarkably efficient at moving through the world. We know where we are going before we leave home. We know how long it will take. We know which turn to take and which street to avoid.
Very little is left to chance.
Yet something valuable may have been lost along the way.
Not every road exists to bring us somewhere. Some roads exist to change the way we see.
Walking through an unfamiliar street, we often look for information. Street names. Directions. Destinations. We want to understand where we are and what comes next.
But there are places that ask for something different.
They ask us to slow down. To notice the texture of old stone beneath our feet. To observe how the light moves across a wall. To hear the quiet sound of our own footsteps. To be present before being productive.
The most memorable places are rarely the ones that reveal themselves immediately. They are the places that unfold slowly.
The streets we walk more than once. The neighbourhoods we return to. The paths that become familiar not because they are spectacular, but because they continue to offer something new each time we pass through them.
Depth often arrives disguised as repetition.
This is true for places. It is true for relationships. It is true for work. And perhaps it is true for life itself.
We spend so much energy searching for the next destination that we sometimes overlook the road beneath us.
Yet meaning is often found there.
Not at the end of the journey, but somewhere along the stones, between one step and the next.
Some roads do not explain themselves.
They simply invite us to continue walking.
And sometimes that is enough.
